This is a list of books that I've found helpful, inspiring, and thought-provoking.
- This is required reading for a 21st century Stoic. Actually, everyone should read it - at least twice.
- Your Money or Your Life - Vicki Robin & Joe Dominguez
- The grand-mammy of Financial Independence. I'm usually skeptical of financial advice books, but the ideas presented here are so unexpected and inspiring. Provides a complete vision of an independent life rather than focusing solely on the financial side.
- Provides some scientific support for the notion of 'character'. I highly recommend this to all aspiring Stoics. Willpower is a muscle that can be developed.
- Provides some useful research on breaking bad habits and developing good ones.
- This is a delightful and fascinating look at consumer culture. They mercilessly dissect the middle class consumerist arms race - especially the consumerist snobbery known as 'hipster anti-consumerism'. In the end, this is not an anti-consumerist book, but that's no reason not to read it.
